In hetfields defense thogh...last year in Rolling Stone when they did one of their countdown for best album or whatever they interviewed different musos for their top 10 and Hetfield had "White Light, White heat, White Trash" in his list!
I don't know what hetfield expects when he is at a public event.....in many people's eyes he is an icon so of course the fans are gonna want to meet him and have mementos of it. Given Metallicas attitude towards certain matters in the last couple of years I can see Hetfield being an arsehole...
Personally, I am not up for hero-worship in public. In my store I get a lot of my favourite musicians and sports stars come through and when I serve them I just treat them like any other customer...bt I make exceptions if they comment on a shirt i'm wearing or if they ask me a question about what is good in the store. I had one of my fav musos in one day and I was wearing one of my Social D shirts and he said to me "Whoa, man, thats an awesome shirt" and I just said thanks and told him the only reason I was wearing it was becase his bands t-shirt that I own was in the wash and he got a laugh out of that!

OK, in rebuttal I offer this. he was at the show in Modesto. I was in a hurry because well that's we do and I passed by him, geeze is he tall! he tired to stop me to talk about the nostalgia dragster he's building , and at first I guess I might have been seen as a dick because I didn't have much time to chat , had get back to the stage, but latter we talked about cars and bikes and he seemed like your average gear head!
I also was the moon show where I was cornered and majorly hassled about my black kat t shirt by some drunk in a cowboy hat. so I can now see why people who really ARE public figures tend not to engage with some one you don't know when your by your self.. they may be a big fan or they may be pissed off about something twenty years ago and wanna start crap!.... I know if it was a kid that's kinda' rude,but you have to take every situation one at a time . but to say he's a dick because of one incident is a bit harsh. yanno?
I completely agree Donny. I think it's all in the delivery though. I don't ever see a reason to be a dick to a kid.
I never liked Metallica, but I could understand how some people do & would like a picture or say hi & whatever.
I met Burt Ward (Robin 1966 to 1968) when I was a little kid. I waited in line forever to meet him & get a signed picture ( i think he low on cash because it was 1972 i think)& he was a total dick. I am still holding a grudge today, 33 years later.

Newsflash, Metallica has no talent. They're by far one of the most overrated bands in the history of music(DMB status, cough cough). Furthermore, all of the members of the band are complete assholes. By extention, anyone who has bought a Metallica album of any kind is also an asshole. I don't know how many of you that applies to, but I'm guessing it's a lot......

The way I look at it- if an adult is hasseling ya- be a dick all you want, adults can handle it. I saw this guy once sneak up behind a celeb- put one arm around the guy's neck and swung his other arm around with a camera and snapped a pic- flash and everything- right in the person's face. The celeb was with his family. That is just fucked up.
Now a kid is a different story. You have to be careful what you say and do around children. You should always treat other people's children as if they were your own. I'm not famous, but I try to watch what kids see me doing. I try not to even let kids see me smoke. I never curse around kids, etc. I've never been a metalica fan, but I'm pretty sure that guy has got to have some children of his own- if someone did that to his kid- it would be a whole different story.
This chump should be greatful younger generations even give a shit about him, I know I don't.
